Lew sold the brick business in 1966 and spent his retirement collecting interesting items related to the history of the area and further developing the area around the pool.

Whiteman Park is a 4000 hectare piece of bushland located close to the Swan Valley in Perth's North. As well as being a biodiversity hotspot offering many nature activities it also houses a wildlife park and several museums. Entry is from Beechboro Road (off Tonkin Highway) or Lord Street. The park is open from 8.30am until 6pm every day of the year except Christmas Day and entry is free.
